February 2014 Drums of the Month
by Brian McKinny
Detroit Custom Drum Company are an independently owned operated custom drum company based out of Detroit, MI. DC/DC, as they’re called in drum circles, builds high quality custom drums, completely by hand. Their visual styles have something for everyone, and their custom drum construction is influenced by a tradition of great drum builders from years ago.
DC/DC uses only the highest quality components (maple shells, die-cast and brass hardware), and they offer drums in virtually any diameter, thickness, construction method, species of wood, and finish you can dream of. If wood hoops, powder coating, or acrylics are your thing, they can do it.
Endorsing such local Detroit musicians as James Trunco of the industrial music machine, Crud, Jon Johnson of The Alligators and many others, DC/DC is spreading the love to the local community through GBS Studios in Detroit, as well as local churches (Community Christian Church, Windsor Christian Fellowship, Trinity Lutheran), and in local bars like The Park Bar in downtown Detroit.
They offer completely custom-built drums, as well as the Rock City Series of custom off-the-shelf kits, completely configurable to your specifications.
The Rock City Series is a solution to high quality custom-built drums at a reasonable and affordable price. Using 6-ply 100% VSS Maple Keller shells, chrome hardware, die-cast lugs, and a brilliant hand-rubbed oil finish comes with the quality and beauty you’ve come to expect from Detroit Custom Drum Company. Plus, you get your choice of off-set or in-line lugs, color or stained finish, and your choice of badges (color or chrome, and “named” or Standard type).
The variety and quality of drums – snare, whole kits, club kits, hardware, custom bass head graphics – are first-rate. The combinations of woods, hardware, finishes, heads, and custom badges boggles the mind. It’s almost (almost) too much choice!
